Hi! My name is Katherine Stricker and I am in my final year at Clemson University where I am studying Spanish and International Health with a minor in Psychology. Originally coming in as a biology major, I always knew that my passions were elsewhere - specifically, in healthcare. After taking an array of health science and Spanish courses in addition to studying abroad in a Spanish-speaking country, I am excited to implement everything I have learned in a real-world setting.

The most impactful part of my college experience was the semester I spent abroad in Costa Rica. Here, I learned and practiced valuable skills such as communication, with my host family and through my internship, adaptability, while adjusting to an unfamiliar culture, and problem-solving, through figuring out how to overcome the language and cultural barriers to fully immerse myself during the semester. Going from only learning and practicing Spanish in a classroom setting to living with a host family was a big adjustment for me, and one that I had to work through without the support of my actual family or friends from home. This really brought me out of my comfort zone and showed me how exciting life can be when you embrace the uncertainty. This experience made such a lasting impression on me to the point where I now want to move to a Spanish speaking country after I graduate.

Through my experience studying abroad and working in the sector of health promotion, I am excited to blend my passions after graduation. As a bilingual healthcare advocate with a passion for reducing health disparities, I plan to use my diverse skill set, including communication, adaptability, and problem-solving, to make a direct and tangible impact on the lives of others. I hope my website provides you with a glimpse into the past four years of challenging but fulfilling work that went into the creation of these projects!
